Chinese court concludes trials of two major criminal gangs from Myanmar
Beijing (ANTARA) - The Chinese court has concluded the trials of two major criminal gangs based in northern Myanmar, which were involved in telecommunications and online fraud, the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) of China said on Thursday.
At a press conference held by the SPC, it was revealed that by the end of 2023, courts across China had completed the initial trials of more than 27,000 cases related to telecommunications fraud operations in northern Myanmar, with more than 41,000 repatriated suspects sentenced.
Meanwhile, among the trials of the criminal gangs, known as the ‘four major families’, which have attracted widespread attention both domestically and internationally, the trials of the Ming and Bai groups have completed the entire judicial process. A total of 39 people were sentenced to life imprisonment or heavier penalties, including 16 who were sentenced to death. The two armed, cross-border criminal networks have been completely dismantled, dealing a heavy blow to criminal elements both inside and outside the country.
