BANDUNG — The Chinese Community Care organisation (Masyarakat Tionghoa Peduli, MTP) has distributed 10,000 affordable food packages across ten locations in Bandung during the Islamic month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. Residents can purchase food packages containing 5 kilograms of rice, one litre of cooking oil, and five noodle packs for 60,000 rupiah.

Herman Widjaja, coordinator of the Chinese Community Care initiative, stated that the organisation, together with Chinese associations and community groups in Bandung, has relaunched the affordable food market. He noted that 10,000 subsidised food packages have been prepared for distribution across ten locations.

“At today’s first event at the Kodim Military Command in Bandung, we have distributed approximately 1,100 food packages. In addition to distributing packages, we have also provided free health services for the surrounding community,” he said at the Kodim 0618 compound in Bandung on Wednesday (25 February 2026).

Widjaja explained that the affordable food market programme is held regularly each year to alleviate the burden on vulnerable residents. He expressed gratitude to donors who contributed to the initiative.

A resident from Ancol Sona neighbourhood strongly supported the affordable food market. She believed the programme could assist low-income residents in purchasing essential groceries.

“It’s excellent and helps those in need, with affordable prices. One package contains 5 kilograms of rice, one litre of oil, and five noodle packs for 60,000 rupiah,” she stated at Kodim 0618 Bandung.

She noted that rice prices at traditional markets can reach 15,500 to 16,500 rupiah per kilogram, whilst cooking oil can cost 19,000 rupiah per litre and a single noodle pack 3,500 rupiah.

“Buying subsidised food for 60,000 rupiah would cost around 100,000 rupiah at a traditional market,” she added.

She arrived at Kodim 0618 at 08:00 and quickly obtained her food package. She hopes the programme will continue to support the community in future years.
