Chinese Chamber of Commerce's Concerns Prompt Letter to Prabowo, Deputy Minister of Investment: It's Normal

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce has written to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, outlining complaints regarding Indonesia’s investment climate. The letter contains six points of concern, including increases in taxes and royalties, tightening of regulations on export proceeds (DHE), reduction in nickel ore quotas, and allegations of excessive law enforcement practices that open opportunities for corruption and extortion. Deputy Minister of Investment/Hilirisasi and Head of BKPM, Todotua Pasaribu, responded that the Chinese Chamber of Commerce’s concerns are understandable. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce is anxious about several investment challenges in Indonesia. “That letter is an expression of concerns from Chinese investors correlated with the China Chambers. It’s quite normal,” said Todotua when met at the Ministry of Investment and Hilirisasi/BKPM office in South Jakarta on Wednesday, 13 May 2026. Todotua views input from foreign investors as a positive development for the government. “In fact, they see the conditions with notes that pose challenges in this country and provide input to the government; we consider that a positive thing that gives input to the government,” stated Todotua. “Yes, definitely, if there is such,” said Todotua. He emphasised that the government will continue to strive to create a conducive investment climate for investors. According to him, Indonesia has various advantages that attract investment, from natural resources to a large domestic market.
