JAKARTA - The Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia has written to President Prabowo Subianto to convey several complaints regarding the investment climate and business certainty in Indonesia. In the letter, Chinese investment companies request that the government improve the business environment to make it more stable, transparent, and predictable.

“However, in recent periods, companies operating in Indonesia have generally faced prominent issues, including overly strict regulations, excessive law enforcement, and even corruption and extortion by authorised authorities,” states the letter addressed to President Prabowo, as quoted on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

Several problems highlighted include increases in taxes and levies, heightened tax inspections, and the planned obligation to retain 50 percent of foreign exchange from natural resource exports in state-owned banks for one year. This policy is deemed to disrupt the liquidity and long-term operations of companies.
