Chinese Automaker Chery Officially Opens NEV Production Facility in Thailand
Bangkok (ANTARA) - Chinese car manufacturer Chery, along with its subsidiaries OMODA & JAECOO, has officially opened a new energy vehicle (NEV) production facility in Thailand on Monday (20/4), marking a milestone in the expansion of its global manufacturing footprint.
Located in Rayong Province in eastern Thailand, the facility features advanced production capabilities, including aluminium body welding and a comprehensive battery production line, with a target annual production capacity of 80,000 units by 2030.
During the facility’s opening ceremony, Chen Chunqing, Executive Vice President of Chery International, stated that the new plant highlights the company’s localisation efforts, positioning Thailand as its regional NEV hub.
He emphasised that Chery will continue to introduce its latest models to the Thai market while rapidly deploying cutting-edge innovations, including autopilot, valet parking systems, and interactive artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Thailand’s Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, Supamas Isarabhakdi, affirmed that the investment aligns with the Thai government’s target for zero-emission vehicles to comprise 30 percent of total automotive production by 2030.
She stated that accelerating the adoption of alternative energy is a crucial long-term solution amid global energy uncertainties, adding that the foreign investment will bring advanced technology transfer, enhance Thai workforce skills, and create local jobs.
To ensure long-term industry growth, OMODA & JAECOO Thailand also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chonburi and Rayong technical universities during the ceremony.
This multi-year educational partnership aims to develop local workforce capabilities in modern automotive technology through technical training, curriculum support, and internship programmes for students.
This launch positions Chery as the latest major Chinese NEV manufacturer to commence local production in Thailand, following in the footsteps of BYD, Changan, GAC Aion, GWM, and MG from SAIC.
