Beijing (ANTARA) - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday (15 May) outlined a new vision for China-US relations, speaking to the media about the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in Beijing.

During Trump’s state visit to China, both sides agreed on a new vision for building a constructive and strategically stable China-US relationship, which will provide strategic guidance for bilateral relations for the next three years and beyond.

Wang said that constructive strategic stability must be positive stability with cooperation as the main foundation. According to him, various efforts must be made to continue strengthening the resilience of China-US relations through exchange and cooperation.

“This ‘constructive strategic stability’ must also be healthy stability with moderate competition,” said Wang.

He emphasised that a zero-sum game, in which one side wins at the expense of the other, must be rejected.

The top Chinese diplomat added that “constructive strategic stability” must also be consistent stability with manageable differences, not a fluctuating relationship like a roller coaster.

“This constructive strategic stability must also be long-term stability with a commitment to peace, and both sides must not allow conflict, confrontation, or even war to occur,” said Wang.
