China's Robots Grow More Advanced, Featuring an Iron Man Suit the Size of Hulk
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Chinese technology company Unitree has once again captured attention with the launch of a robot suit similar to Iron Man. The Hulk-sized robot suit is named GD01.
The launch of the GD01 marks a significant step in the development of humanoid robots and autonomous vehicles, while realising the mecha concept that has long existed only in manga.
Weighing up to 500 kilograms and designed to be controlled by a human from inside, then operating it as a much larger body. Although its height is not as tall as the robots from the Neon Genesis Evangelion series. The GD01 design features a slim frame with longer arms and legs.
In a video released by Unitree on YouTube, the GD01 is shown to be able to walk stably, punch and knock down a brick wall with its fist. The robot can also move in a low position like crawling with flexible movements.
Unlike previous mecha that often consisted of static robots or four-legged ones, the GD01 comes in a form and function closer to the true mecha concept as in science fiction.
According to Futurism, Unitree is widely known as a major player in the humanoid robot industry. Previously, the company has showcased various capabilities of its robots, from acrobatics, playing basketball, to assisting with heavy physical work.
The presence of the GD01 further strengthens China’s position as a leader in innovation in the field of humanoid robotics.
However, this advanced technology comes at a steep price. Unitree has set the initial price of the GD01 at US$650,000, equivalent to more than Rp10 billion.
At its launch, Unitree also issued a warning to potential buyers.
“We ask all users not to make dangerous modifications or use the robot in risky ways,” Unitree stated in its official statement.
To date, there is no further information regarding the sale of the GD01 to the public or what specific functions can be further developed on the robot.
Nevertheless, the presence of this fully functional mecha serves as tangible proof of how quickly robotics technology is progressing towards a world that once existed only in imagination.
