China's Rating Agency Gives Indonesia AAA Rating, Says Prabowo
President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia has received positive recognition from international credit rating agencies, including from China. He stated that China’s Lianhe Rating gave Indonesia an AAA/Stable rating, the highest level, for its Panda Bonds issuance. “The rating agency of the People’s Republic of China, China Lianhe Rating, also gave an AAA/Stable rating, which is the highest level for the issuance of Panda Bonds of the Republic of Indonesia,” Prabowo said during his speech on the 2027 State Budget Bill and Financial Note at the Parliament Building, Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026).
Prabowo said the assessment is proof that the government’s policies have been able to maintain national economic resilience. The Chinese rating agency assessed that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals are solid, government policies are effective, and the country is capable of facing external shocks while keeping inflation under control. “This is the world’s recognition of the strength of the Indonesian economy and that Indonesia remains in the investment grade category,” Prabowo explained.
In addition to the rating from China, Prabowo also highlighted Standard & Poor’s (S&P) decision on 13 July 2026 to maintain Indonesia’s credit rating at BBB with a stable outlook. He said S&P assessed Indonesia’s economic prospects as robust, with prudent macroeconomic policies and a relatively prudent and sustainable debt burden compared to peer countries. S&P also gave a positive assessment of the government’s efforts to centralise the management of natural resources and plug leakages in the natural resources and mineral sectors, steps considered capable of increasing state revenue and foreign exchange from exports. Prabowo added that S&P positively viewed the role of Danantara and the potential of PT DSI in eradicating under-invoicing and transfer pricing practices, which he described as fraudulent. He stressed that the government does not want to choose between pursuing economic growth and maintaining fiscal prudence. “We do not choose between growth and prudence, we choose both. We do not choose between helping the people and safeguarding the state budget, we do both,” he asserted.
