China's Most Wanted Online Scam Fugitive Arrested After Landing at Soekarno-Hatta Airport

The Indonesian NCB-Interpol secretariat has arrested Zheng Rongjing, a fugitive from Beijing wanted in connection with an international online scam network, shortly after he landed at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, in the early hours of Thursday, 25 June 2026. Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, Secretary of NCB-Interpol Indonesia at the National Police’s International Relations Division, stated that the arrest was made in support of efforts to eradicate online fraud linked to international crime syndicates, acting on a request from NCB-Interpol Beijing. The operation began when NCB-Interpol Beijing requested assistance from NCB-Interpol Jakarta on 5 March 2026 to locate and apprehend Zheng Rongjing, who is believed to be a major figure in online scam operations. He was on Interpol Beijing’s most-wanted list for his activities running scam operations in one of the largest compounds in Cambodia. Based on investigations and coordination, Zheng was identified entering Indonesian territory on Wednesday, 24 June, at 11.50 p.m. Western Indonesian Time aboard AirAsia flight QZ-475, landing at Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport. He was apprehended immediately upon arrival by the NCB-Interpol Indonesia team with assistance from the Directorate General of Immigration. Following the arrest, investigators are probing the reasons for Zheng’s travel to Indonesia, suspecting that local facilitators and infrastructure were already prepared to receive a major online scam operator. Zheng will be handed over to the authorities of the People’s Republic of China through a formal handing-over mechanism.
