China's Marine Economy Records Stable Growth in H1 2026
Beijing (ANTARA) - China’s gross ocean product (GOP) reached 5.5 trillion yuan (1 yuan = Rp2,676) in the first half (H1) of 2026, up 5.1 per cent year on year (yoy), according to data released by China’s Ministry of Natural Resources on Monday (3/8).
The figure contributed 7.9 per cent to China’s gross domestic product (GDP), the ministry said, adding that the country’s marine economy has experienced steady growth with positive development momentum.
Meng Qinglei, an official from the ministry, said that since the beginning of this year, the supply of marine resources across China has remained stable, providing a solid foundation for the development of the marine economy.
Meanwhile, China’s shipbuilding industry maintained strong growth during the January-June period. New shipbuilding orders, completed shipbuilding output, and orders still in the queue rose by 105.2 per cent, 34.8 per cent, and 37.1 per cent (yoy) respectively. The global market share for the three indicators reached 73.9 per cent, 55.4 per cent, and 63.3 per cent respectively, keeping China in the world’s leading position.
The ministry stated that China’s shipbuilding sector has continued to optimise its product structure, achieving improvements in both the quantity and quality of vessels delivered. In H1 2026, more than 40 large vessels, such as container ships with a capacity of over 10,000 TEU, ultra-large crude oil tankers, and large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, were handed over to their buyers.
