The domestically developed Chinese F406 turbofan engine, with a thrust of 600kg, has successfully completed its maiden flight test in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, northern China. According to Aero Engine Corporation of China (AECC), the developer, the flight was conducted using an advanced meteorological drone with a twin-engine configuration. The successful flight marks China’s first autonomous control and domestic application of medium and small turbofan engines in the general aviation sector, the company stated. Developed by the company’s technology subsidiary, the F406 has filled various technical gaps in China’s capabilities for medium and small turbofan engines. The company said the engine will be used across various mission platforms, including high-altitude inspection drones, communication relay drones, and long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles.
