China's electric vehicle charging infrastructure surges
Beijing — Data from the National Energy Administration of China shows that the country’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is developing rapidly amid ongoing efforts to facilitate wider EV adoption by expanding supporting infrastructure. By the end of April 2026, total charging facilities nationwide reached 21.96 million, up 47.4 percent year-on-year. Of these, public charging facilities accounted for 4.91 million, up 29.6 percent year-on-year. The combined charging capacity of these facilities stood at 237 million kilowatts. China remains committed to expanding its EV support network. In October 2025, it unveiled a three-year action plan to boost EV charging infrastructure, targeting a national network of 28 million charging facilities, and public charging capacity above 300 million kilowatts by the end of 2027.
