China’s Commerce Minister Meets Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook
Beijing (ANTARA) – Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met Tim Cook, Apple Inc.’s chief executive, on Thursday. They exchanged views on a range of topics, including China-US economic and trade relations, the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and Apple’s business in China, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce.
Wang said that, guided by the consensus reached by the two countries’ leaders on building a constructive and strategically stable bilateral relationship based on respect, fairness and reciprocity, China-US economic and trade consultations had produced positive results.
China supports the safe and orderly development of AI, its inclusive and beneficial use, and cooperation in AI governance, Wang said.
He also expressed hope that Apple would serve as a bridge for communication and contribute to the sustainable, stable and healthy development of China-US economic and trade relations.
Wang said China remained firmly committed to expanding high-standard opening-up and improving its business environment. Its consumer market continued to grow and upgrade, while its green supply chains continued to expand.
These developments, he added, would create greater opportunities for multinational companies to invest in China in areas that are smarter, greener and more innovative.
Wang also said he hoped Apple would continue to strengthen its presence in the Chinese market and share in the opportunities arising from China’s modernisation.
Cook said Apple was optimistic about China’s development prospects and would continue to expand its business in the country. The company was willing to play a positive role in promoting stable and healthy US-China economic and trade relations.
