China's Bicycle Production Records Stable Growth in 2025
Shanghai (ANTARA) - China’s bicycle sector recorded stable production growth in 2025, with total output reaching 110.8 million units, up 11.3% year-on-year (yoy), according to industry data released on Friday (8/5).
The data was released during the 34th China International Bicycle Fair currently underway in Shanghai. In line with the global bicycle industry’s trend towards eco-friendly, smart, and high-quality development, this year’s exhibition showcases China’s latest bicycle products and new directions for the sector.
Guo Wenyu, vice president and secretary general of the China Bicycle Association, stated that the country’s bicycle industry saw a 9% yoy increase in operational revenue in 2025, with profits recording a sharp rise.
China exported nearly 48.94 million bicycles to overseas markets in 2025, up 2.4% yoy, maintaining steady growth momentum.
Meanwhile, bicycle component exports reached $3.63 billion (US$1 = Rp17,362), surging 10.6% yoy, marking outstanding performance.
“The expansion of usage scenarios has broken new boundaries for bicycle consumption, while scenario diversification has stimulated segmented market demand,” said Guo.
A total of 101 bicycle racing events were held in China in 2025, up 23% from 2024, with participant numbers exceeding 1 million. The number of amateur cycling clubs in the country has surpassed 80,000, driving rapid expansion of the bicycle equipment market.
The average daily trips for shared bicycle services in China reached 120 million. This service complements urban public transport and better meets urban commuter travel and short-distance journey demands.
In 2025, China launched an electric bicycle trade-in policy programme and implemented new mandatory national safety standards for electric bicycles. Based on statistics, more than 12.5 million electric bicycles were sold through the programme last year, a ninefold increase from 2024.
“In addition to stimulating market vitality, the standards have established safety rules for the entire bicycle industry at the national level, which is conducive to further enhancing the quality and efficiency of the sector and promoting its high-quality development,” added Guo.
