Beijing (ANTARA) - China’s box office revenue during the nine-day Spring Festival holiday ending on Monday (23/2) reached 5.75 billion yuan (1 yuan = Rp2,434), with audience numbers surpassing 120 million, the China Film Administration (CFA) said on Tuesday.

“Pegasus 3”, the third instalment of the racing-comedy franchise directed by Han Han and starring Shen Teng, emerged as the top-grossing film of the holiday box office season with ticket sales reaching 2.93 billion yuan.

The contemporary espionage thriller “Scare Out”, directed by Zhang Yimou, came in second with revenue of 868 million yuan. The film tells the story of a military aviation data leak and marks Zhang’s fourth Spring Festival release in the past five years.

“Blades of the Guardians: Wind Rises in the Desert”, directed by legendary action choreographer Yuen Woo-ping, took third place with revenue of 806 million yuan. Meanwhile, the animated franchise film “Boonie Bears: The Hidden Protector” ranked fourth with 714 million yuan.

The Spring Festival holiday is one of the most critical periods for the world’s second-largest film market. The period accounted for nearly one-fifth of China’s total annual box office revenue in both 2024 and 2025.

Over the past three years, the top-grossing film during the Spring Festival season has gone on to become the overall annual box office champion.
