The Chinese government has warned that the use of military force by the United States, Israel, and Iran, who are embroiled in the Middle East conflict, has ‘proven’ that it cannot resolve any issues. Beijing stressed the importance of a diplomatic solution to the dispute.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian, as reported by Anadolu Agency, said on Tuesday (9/6/2026) that the conflict between the US and Israel against Iran, ‘which has lasted for more than three months, has dealt a heavy blow to countries in the Gulf region.’

‘Facts have proven that military means cannot solve any problems and the arbitrary use of force will only complicate matters,’ Lin told journalists in Beijing.

He was responding to reports of a ceasefire violation by Israel in Lebanon, despite the US having pressed Tel Aviv not to launch attacks.

‘Iran-US negotiations are currently at a crucial stage. No party should reignite military conflict,’ Lin stressed, whilst calling for respect for the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Middle Eastern countries.

‘China calls on the relevant parties to remain calm, exercise restraint, stop any confrontational actions that could escalate the conflict, take concrete measures to de-escalate the situation, resolve disputes through political and diplomatic means, and strive to achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire as soon as possible,’ he said.

The Chinese authorities’ comments emerged amid potential tensions in the relationship between the US and Israel, after President Donald Trump asked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to retaliate for Tehran’s missile attack on Sunday (7/6) evening local time.

Trump’s request was ignored by Netanyahu, with Israel launching retaliatory strikes against Iran on Monday (8/6) morning. Israeli forces struck Iran’s air defence systems and a petrochemical plant in the Shia-majority country. Iran then retaliated by bombarding similar facilities in Haifa and targeting two Israeli air bases.

Many missiles were intercepted in the skies over the West Bank. There were no reported casualties on either side.

The tensions were triggered by Israel’s deadly bombing of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, on Sunday (7/6). Iran, which has long maintained that a peace deal with the US partly depends on a halt to the fighting in Lebanon, responded with missile strikes into northern Israel.

The cycle of strikes between Iran and Israel has currently been halted.
