China, Vietnam in big deals

HANOI (AFP): China and Vietnam have signed two multi-million dollar loan agreements during a visit here by Chinese Vice- Premier Wu Bangguo, the foreign ministry said yesterday.

China will give Vietnam loans worth $170 million to renovate a steel works in Thai Nguyen, which the Chinese built in the 1960s. It will also provide $25 million in soft loans.

However, they failed to conclude a third agreement for Beijing to lend $100 million for restructuring a fertilizer plant.
