China is urging the United States and Iran to adhere to the ceasefire and avoid the outbreak of war once again. “China is deeply concerned about the current situation,” stated Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning to reporters in Beijing on Wednesday.

This statement follows reports that the United States launched attacks on Qeshm Island in response to alleged Iranian strikes across various regions of the Middle East. Washington also stated that US military forces and partner troops had intercepted several Iranian missiles and drones.

Mao emphasised that the resumption of war would be detrimental to all parties involved. “We hope that the relevant parties can respect opportunities for peace, adhere to ceasefire commitments, and maintain negotiation momentum, as well as stick to resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means,” she said.

Meanwhile, Kuwait reported that its air defence systems intercepted missile and drone attacks, described as acts of “hostility,” during the early hours of Wednesday. The United States and Iran have re-engaged in mutual airstrikes despite a ceasefire that has been in place since 8 April. The conflict escalated after the US and Israel began attacking Iran on 28 February.
