China to Promote Mutual Empowerment Between AI and Energy

Beijing (ANTARA) - Chinese authorities have recently released an action plan aimed at promoting mutual empowerment between artificial intelligence (AI) and energy. The plan targets a significant increase in the capacity of clean energy supply for AI computing power infrastructure by 2030, while the application of AI in the energy sector will also see substantial growth. Driven by these efforts, China aims to build a new development paradigm characterised by mutual empowerment and deep integration between AI and energy, according to the action plan issued by China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) together with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and the National Data Administration (NDA). The NEA revealed that this action plan aims to ensure a secure and reliable energy supply for computing power infrastructure, promote a green and low-carbon transition in computing power infrastructure, and facilitate efficient and economical coordination between computing power and electricity. In addition, the plan also seeks to unlock high-value application scenarios for AI in the energy sector, tap into the value potential of energy data, and strengthen AI model innovation in the energy field.
