China reports stable strengthening of poverty alleviation results
The results of poverty alleviation in China continue to be strengthened and expanded consistently, with per capita income in rural areas showing stable growth, according to a report from China’s State Council.
The report on strengthening poverty alleviation achievements and advancing rural revitalisation was submitted for discussion at a session of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the country’s highest legislative body, which opened on Tuesday (25/8).
According to the report, per capita disposable income of rural residents in areas that have been removed from the poverty list increased from 12,588 yuan (1 yuan = Rp2,634) in 2020 to 18,627 yuan in 2025, with an average annual growth rate of 8.2 percent.
The report also showed significant improvements in rural infrastructure and public services, as well as a narrowing of the development gap compared with other regions.
Assistance in the industrial and employment sectors has been enhanced, and various efforts have been made to maintain job stability for those who have successfully escaped poverty.
The number of people from that group who are employed has exceeded 32 million, the report said.
In addition, the report also acknowledged ongoing challenges, including the long-term risk of falling back into poverty and weak development foundations in less developed areas.
Going forward, routine assistance will be integrated into the overall rural revitalisation strategy, with people at risk of falling back into poverty and less developed areas remaining the primary targets of assistance.
This approach will combine development-oriented support with a robust social security system to guarantee basic livelihoods, the report explained.
