China rejects the notion that great powers should govern the world together

Beijing — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that Beijing does not support the logic that great powers should jointly manage the world. He made the remarks at a press conference on Sunday, in response to a hypothetical notion that China and the United States would lead global governance. “China will never follow the old path where the strong ultimately seek hegemony, and does not support the logic of great powers jointly managing the world,” he said. The senior diplomat noted that China and the United States undeniably wield influence in the world, but one should not forget that there are more than 190 countries on the planet. Wang Yi noted that world history has always been written by all countries, and the future of humanity is created together by the people of all nations. “Therefore, pluralistic coexistence is the true face of humanity, and multipolar coexistence is the right form of the international order,” he added. According to the diplomat, regardless of how the international situation develops and how advanced China becomes, the country will never seek hegemony or expansion.
