China Rejects Allegations That Its AI Companies are 'Copying' US Technology

Beijing (ANTARA) - China’s Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday (9/ September) expressed its strong rejection of recent US announcements alleging that Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) companies are involved in industrial-scale efforts to absorb capabilities from US AI models.

The Chinese Ministry stated that these accusations are groundless and lack any legal basis.

“China’s AI development is the result of a high level of self-reliance and strength in science and technology, while also benefiting from China’s commitment to extensive consultation, common contribution, and mutual benefit, as well as openness and cooperation,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning.

“We believe that all parties need to strengthen cooperation and ensure that AI development is open and inclusive, promoting human prosperity and serving as a force for good for all,” Mao stated during a press conference.

Mao expressed hope that the US would earnestly follow up on the important understandings reached by the two heads of state.

“China and the US, as two major powers in the field of AI, must strengthen cooperation,” she added.
