China Rally could join World C'ship

BEIJING (AFP): Chinese sports officials hope the China Rally
will next year become part of the world championship.

China Rally '97 from June 20 to June 23 will be the second leg
of the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship in place of the Hong Kong-
Beijing rally.

The race will start at the Great Wall at Huairou, 65
kilometers north of the capital. The 1,444km route -- including
369km of special stages -- will take cars through the mountains
and hills of Hebei province.
