China leads Indonesia's downstream investment at IDR 103.5 trillion
China has become the largest contributor to foreign investment realisation in Indonesia’s downstream sector during the first half of 2026, with recorded inflows reaching IDR 103.5 trillion as part of a surge in foreign capital. Official data shows that Chinese investment holds a dominant position in capital flows for resource processing activities, making Chinese investment in the downstream sector a key highlight in the government’s report. In the second quarter of 2026 alone, the value of Chinese investment in downstream processing reached IDR 63.1 trillion out of a total foreign downstream investment of IDR 114.4 trillion, according to a release from the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, which underscored the focus of investors from the region. Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani assessed that the substantial figure reflects market confidence in Indonesia’s investment climate. Rosan said that improved business certainty and licensing simplification are the main factors keeping investors committed to expanding their investments. The statement was made during a press conference at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, quoted on Friday, 17 July 2026, which affirmed the government’s openness to foreign investors. Besides China, Singapore ranked second with an investment value of IDR 65.7 trillion, followed by Japan at IDR 8.7 trillion and the United States at IDR 8.1 trillion.
