China-Laos Railway Sees Peak Summer Passenger Traffic

Kunming (ANTARA) - Since the start of the 2026 summer travel peak, cross-border China-Laos railway services have recorded impressive passenger flows. Through the Mohan Border Post, inbound-outbound travel volume has exceeded 11,000 passenger journeys per day since 1 July.

According to data from China Railway Kunming Group Co., Ltd, an average of 53.2 high-speed train services have operated daily on the Kunming-Xishuangbanna route since 1 July. Over the same period, passenger numbers on the domestic Chinese section of the China-Laos Railway reached 649,000 per day, while more than 11,000 cross-border passengers passed through the Mohan post each day.

At the Mohan border post, local authorities have introduced various special services to facilitate customs inspection, including a reservation-based customs process for tour groups, intelligent inspection platforms, and self-service facilities.

These facilities have significantly cut border inspection times. In addition, foreign currency ATMs, foreign exchange services, and mobile SIM card sales are available for inbound passengers.

“This is my first time travelling abroad by train. The multilingual services, the smooth customs process, and the very unique train ticket design all gave me a completely new experience,” said Lin Ruoyin, a Chinese tourist heading to Laos for a holiday, as she prepared to board the train.
