China, KL make defense pledge
BEIJING (Reuters): Malaysia and China agreed to boost defense
cooperation and use peaceful means to resolve tensions over
disputed waters in the South China Sea, Malaysian Foreign
Minister Syed Hamid Albar said on Wednesday.
The pledges were part of a broader agreement expanding
political, trade and transportation ties between the two
countries in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic
ties.
"There will be more exchanges of visits and exchanges of views
on matters that affect the security architecture of our region,"
Syed said.
"We are not entering into any security arrangement, but it is
more of a collaboration in all areas that will enable the
countries in our region to create an environment of peace and
stability," he said.
