Taiwan has launched a website inviting Chinese citizens to leak intelligence, drawing a furious response from Beijing. The platform, introduced by Taiwan’s National Security Bureau (NSB), features an AI-generated video depicting a Chinese civil servant being dismissed and investigated, and urges citizens to report information to the island’s authorities.

The NSB stated that the reporting channel was based on practices adopted by intelligence agencies in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Israel. It claimed that ‘more and more people’ were reaching out to Taiwanese institutions with a desire to provide various types of information, appealing to those who share ‘democratic values’.

China, which claims Taiwan as part of its sovereign territory, reacted with outrage. Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, accused the Taiwanese authorities of reflecting a ‘continuously confrontational mindset’ and severely damaging cross-strait relations. ‘We strongly condemn this action and will take resolute countermeasures,’ Chen said.

He warned that any Chinese citizens providing intelligence to Taiwanese institutions would be held legally accountable, emphasising that all citizens, political parties, and organisations bear the responsibility and obligation to safeguard national security.
