China: Ensuring Smooth Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz is a Common Interest

Beijing (ANTARA) - China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, stated on Monday that safeguarding security, stability, and the smooth flow of traffic in the Strait of Hormuz is a common interest of the international community.

Guo made the remarks following the United States’ announcement that its Navy would begin blocking ships attempting to enter or exit the strait.

Describing the Strait of Hormuz as a vital route for international trade in goods and energy, Guo said during a routine press conference that the root cause of disruptions to traffic in the strait is the Iran conflict, and the solution is to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible.

He called on all parties to remain calm and exercise restraint, while adding that China will continue to play a positive and constructive role.
