Beijing (ANTARA) - China’s Special Envoy for Middle East affairs, Zhai Jun, on Monday (23/3), emphasised that his government will continue to pursue diplomatic mediation for as long as the conflict persists in the Middle East.

Zhai stated during a press conference that the Chinese people greatly value peace. He continued that the basis of China’s policy in the Middle East is to promote reconciliation and peace.

Zhai also reminded that the conflict in the region has already claimed more than 21,000 lives. And, as the flames of war spread in the Middle East, global trade and the economy are under immense pressure.

“Once Pandora’s box is opened, the impact will be enormous. Further battles will not produce a winner, but only great suffering for the people in the region,” he said.

Zhai stated that as a responsible major power and a sincere friend to the countries in the region, China will maintain close communication and coordination with all parties, help ease tensions, pave the way for ceasefires, bridge the resumption of dialogue, and make unremitting efforts for peace and stability in the Middle East.
