China Condemns US-Israel Military Strikes on Iran, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire

China has expressed serious concern over military strikes against Iran launched by the United States and Israel, emphasising that Iran’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity must be respected.

The statement was issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s office on Saturday 28 February 2026 through their X account. China reiterated that Iranian territory must be respected.

“China is deeply concerned about the military strikes against Iran launched by the United States and Israel. The sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Iran must be respected,” the statement read.

China called for an immediate cessation of military operations, urging dialogue and negotiation to maintain stability in the Middle East.

“China calls for the immediate cessation of military operations, no further escalation of tensions, the resumption of dialogue and negotiations, and efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East,” it continued.

Russia Condemns US-Israel Strikes on Iran

Meanwhile, Russia’s envoy to the United Nations has also strongly condemned the military strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel. Russia assessed the strikes as unprovoked aggression violating fundamental principles of international law.

“The actions of Washington and Western Jerusalem are nothing less than unprovoked armed aggression against a sovereign and independent UN member state, which violates the organisation’s charter and fundamental principles of international law,” said Russian UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia during an emergency session of the UN Security Council held on Sunday 1 March 2026, according to Anadolu Agency.

He emphasised that the strikes “interfere in Iran’s internal affairs and aim to destroy a state disfavoured by the West.” The United States and Israel were accused of taking reckless action.

“The irresponsible and reckless actions of the United States and Israel, which we warned about previously, have resulted in a sharp escalation of the situation throughout the region,” Nebenzia stated.

“Furthermore, the US and Israeli military operations constitute a betrayal of diplomacy,” he added.

The emergency session was requested by the permanent missions of France, Bahrain, China, Russia and Colombia.
