China Commits to Assisting African Nations in Combating Ebola

China will continue to assist African nations and provide the necessary support to end the Ebola outbreak as quickly as possible, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday. Spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks in response to a question regarding the third team of medical experts sent by the Chinese government, which arrived in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on 1 August. Lin stated that following the outbreak of Ebola in Africa, China responded seriously to the situation and dispatched several medical expert teams to the continent, including to the DRC, to combat the epidemic, a move that has been highly appreciated. The third medical expert team comprises specialists in epidemiology, health quarantine, clinical care, and pathogen laboratory testing. Continuing the efforts of previous teams, it will further strengthen exchanges and coordination with the DRC and international organisations according to the needs of epidemic prevention and control, according to Lin. “With the Ebola outbreak still spreading, China will continue to deploy its professional medical personnel to the continent, assisting African nations and providing the necessary support to end the outbreak as soon as possible,” Lin said.
