China Chamber of Commerce Writes to Indonesia, BKPM Reveals Contents
The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) considers the letter from the China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (Kadin China in Indonesia) to the government as constructive input for the national investment climate.
Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of BKPM Todotua Pasaribu stated that the government views this submission as a positive matter that can serve as material for policy evaluation.
“We consider it a positive thing that provides input to the government,” said Todotua, quoted from Antara on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
According to him, the letter contains several notes regarding concerns of investors from China about various challenges still faced in business activities in Indonesia.
“That’s quite normal. They even see that there are notes on the conditions that become challenges in this country and provide input to the government,” he said.
Todotua emphasised that BKPM has the mandate to continuously create a conducive and competitive investment climate so that Indonesia remains a primary global investment destination.
He mentioned that Indonesia has several advantages, ranging from abundant natural resources, a large domestic market, to a strategic geographical position.
“This country with various kinds of natural resource potentials, then the demand market is one of the largest with a large population, and also a strategic region. We hope Indonesia becomes the destination for investment growth,” he said.
In addition, the government is also continuing to promote downstreaming programmes which are part of the Astacita agenda of the Prabowo Subianto administration. This programme aims to increase the added value of domestic commodities through processing within the country.
Todotua explained that downstreaming is expected to strengthen the national industry while creating jobs and boosting economic growth.
“The hope is that various commodities in our country, whether coal commodities, oil and gas, agriculture, industry, their processing can be done here, so that the benefits can be realised and also create jobs, increase economic growth,” he said.
The government also assures that it will continue to open spaces for dialogue with investors, including from China, to maintain the sustainability of investments in Indonesia.
