China’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organisations in Switzerland, Jia Guide, addressed the theme of ‘Bridging the AI Gap’ during the inaugural session of the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance held on Monday. Jia stated that artificial intelligence is profoundly reshaping the development landscape of nations and the architecture of global governance. All parties must make universal benefit and inclusivity the starting point, uphold the UN’s role as the main channel, and focus on capacity building to realise an inclusive, open, sustainable, fair, secure, and reliable digital intelligence future. Digital sovereignty means that countries have the right to independently choose AI products without being forced to take sides. Jia emphasised that China, as a supporter, driver, and pioneer in AI capacity building, has proposed the Global AI Governance Initiative and helped countries share the benefits of AI. He said China will host the 2026 World AI Conference and a High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance, and looks forward to the active participation of all parties with the aim of bridging the AI gap.
