Jakarta (ANTARA) - Wholesale sales of Chinese-brand cars in Indonesia cumulatively in April 2026 reached 15,851 units according to data from Gabungan Industri Kendaraan Bermotor Indonesia (Gaikindo). The figure jumped 96.2 percent, or almost double that of the same period last year, amid a recovery in the national automotive market. As this increase occurred, the market share of Chinese brands rose to 19.6% from last year’s 15.5%, or nearly one-fifth of total wholesale. This positive trend is in line with national vehicle sales which also rose 55% in the same period. BYD and Jaecoo still lead, recording sales of 4,625 and 3,219 units respectively, placing them at fifth and seventh among the best-selling brands in Indonesia last month. Not only the pure electric segment, but part of the sales of these Chinese brands also come from the hybrid segment such as Chery to Geely. Furthermore, the Chinese hybrid segment is also increasingly crowded with the presence of BYD’s first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) car in Indonesia, the M6 DM, officially launched at the start of the week. This BYD hybrid uses the latest Dual Mode (DM) technology, combining EV and hybrid. BYD claims, in one of its internal tests, their DM-era hybrid capable of traveling more than 1,800 kilometres on a full battery and fuel tank, making it more relevant to Indonesia’s mobility needs.
