China Begins to Be Abandoned, Donald Trump's Tactics Succeed
US President Donald Trump has succeeded in making Apple Inc.’s management submit by their willingness to build factories domestically. Previously, the iPhone manufacturer’s factories were spread across China and India, despite being headquartered in Cupertino, California, in Silicon Valley. Apple’s latest move to build factories domestically actually aligns with the increasing number of companies establishing manufacturing plants and supply chains in the US. Apple’s American Manufacturing Program has announced the joining of semiconductor companies, namely Bosch, Cirrus Logic, and Qnity Electronics. This new partnership will focus on producing sensors, integrated circuits, and advanced materials for Apple devices. Several of these components will be produced for the first time in the US, as quoted from Reuters last weekend. In this collaboration, Bosch and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) will produce hardware sensor chips at TSMC’s facility in Washington. Meanwhile, Cirrus Logic will develop semiconductor process technology to support features like Face ID in partnership with GlobalFoundries. Qnity Electronics is tasked with supplying essential materials for semiconductor production and AI-related technology. The investment plan for the US Manufacturing Program reaches US$400 million until 2030. According to Apple, the programme will help create jobs and strengthen US capabilities in the advanced semiconductor and electronics manufacturing industry. Previously, US President Donald Trump urged Apple to build factories in the US. Apple then committed to it. However, that promise was called a lie by Trump. Apple did not build factories in the US, but moved its facilities from China to India.
