China Becomes Indonesia's Main Coal Partner, Industrial Collaboration Broadens
The strengthening strategic relationship between Indonesia and China in the energy and mining sectors is a key focus at the Indonesia Coal and Energy Expo (ICEE) 2026, held at the Jakarta International Expo.
The relationship between the two countries is no longer limited to commodity trade but is moving towards a strategic partnership in the regional energy supply chain, including the development of mining technology, logistics efficiency, and the transformation of the low-carbon industry.
Head of Marketing at MMS Resources, Muhamad Saly Putra, stated that current global market conditions demonstrate the importance of long-term relationships, open communication, and a secure energy supply between Indonesia and China.
According to him, China remains a key partner for the Indonesian coal industry.
Based on Kpler data, approximately 42% of Indonesia’s annual coal exports are destined for China, with export volumes reaching around 305 million tons in 2025.
The significant trade relationship, Saly added, makes the stability and sustainability of cooperation between the two countries increasingly important, both for the sustainability of the Indonesian energy industry and the security of China’s energy supply.
Saly believes that the relationship between Indonesia and China in the energy sector is now moving towards broader industrial collaboration.
This is evident from the involvement of various parties in ICEE 2026, ranging from mining companies, energy traders, the China Coal Association, logistics associations, regional government representatives, to mining and energy technology companies from both countries.
According to Saly, the presence of these various stakeholders opens up strategic opportunities in the development of a more modern mining industry that is adaptive to global challenges.
For MMS Resources, cross-country collaboration is considered an important element in maintaining the sustainability of the national energy industry amidst global dynamics.
As a mining sub-holding company of MMSGI engaged in integrated mining management and mining supply chain management, MMS Resources sees strengthening its global network and its ability to anticipate the direction of regional energy industry transformation as a strategic step for the company.
ICEE 2026 brings together industry players, associations, governments, and technology providers from Indonesia and China to discuss new directions for the energy industry, which is becoming increasingly green, efficient, and integrated.
More than 150 global energy and mining companies are participating in ICEE 2026, including technology and heavy equipment companies from China.
Through its participation in the forum, MMS Resources reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its role as an adaptive mining industry partner, with a long-term orientation, and supporting the transformation of the Indonesian energy sector towards a more sustainable future.
