Beijing (ANTARA) - Chinese President Xi Jinping and United States President Donald Trump have agreed that Iran must fulfil its commitment to not develop nuclear weapons, according to a report by China’s state broadcaster, China Central Television (CCTV), on Saturday (26/9).

Xi conducted a state visit to the US at the invitation of Trump from 23-25 September 202<0xA0>26.

On the same day, President Trump also reiterated via social media that Iran must not possess such weapons of mass destruction.

“Iran must not have nuclear weapons!!!” Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform, without providing further details regarding his statement.

This statement aligns with Trump’s speech earlier this week at the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly, where he asserted that he would never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

On 28 February, the US and Israel launched attacks against several targets in Iran, which subsequently triggered retaliatory strikes.

In mid-June, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding to cease the conflict. However, the agreement did not last long, and tensions quickly resumed. To date, the conflict between the two parties has yet to reach a resolution.
