China and Indonesia strengthen cooperation through HR training programme
The Indonesian and Chinese governments are strengthening human resource development cooperation through training and capacity-building exchange programmes attended by thousands of Indonesian participants, during an alumni gathering for the Indonesia-China Technical Cooperation Programme in Jakarta on Thursday evening (11/6).
“Alumni are not merely programme beneficiaries. They are an important bridge linking the people of Indonesia and China,” said Sari Harjanti, Expert Staff to the Minister of State Secretariat for Political Communication and Public Relations, representing Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
Sari stated that Indonesia-China cooperation continues to develop comprehensively and is realised through various concrete programmes in trade, investment, infrastructure, energy, education, and HR development.
According to her, interest among Indonesian civil servants and the public in international capacity-building programmes continues to increase year on year. In 2023, more than 600 Indonesian participants attended international training programmes. That number rose to approximately 1,600 participants for the 2025-2026 period, with the majority taking part in programmes organised by the Chinese government.
Sari noted that from 2024 until May 2026, the Chinese government will provide at least 173 training programmes for Indonesian government officials, consisting of 38 degree programmes and 135 non-degree programmes across various strategic sectors.
China’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Wang Lutong, said that capacity-building programmes form an important part of the people-to-people relations between the two countries. According to Wang, over the past two decades more than 4,000 Indonesians from various backgrounds—ranging from civil servants and teachers to village heads—have participated in training programmes and visits to China.
He stated that China would continue to support training cooperation, knowledge exchange, and various projects that deliver benefits to the people of both countries.
During the event, several alumni shared their experiences of training in China, including in the fields of clean energy, rural development, poverty alleviation, industrial estate management, and digital transformation. Participants assessed that the programmes not only enhanced professional capacity and insight but also expanded cooperation networks that can be leveraged to support development in Indonesia.
The alumni gathering, organised by the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, was attended by hundreds of training programme alumni, government officials, and cooperation partners from both countries, set against the backdrop of the 76th anniversary of Indonesia-China friendship relations.
