China and Egypt mark 70 years of diplomatic relations

Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Xi stated that Egypt was the first Arab and African nation to establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China. Over the past 70 years, despite evolving international and regional dynamics, both nations have consistently shown mutual respect, treated each other as equals, maintained trust, and provided assistance when needed, Xi said. He added that China-Egypt relations have served as a model for friendship, solidarity, and cooperation among developing countries, and set a benchmark for collective collaboration between China and Arab nations, as well as China and Africa, enabling both to steadily advance towards building a China-Egypt community with a shared future in the new era. As ancient civilisations and key members of the Global South, China and Egypt must draw wisdom and strength from history to fulfil their historical mission of achieving peace, development, cooperation, and justice, thereby injecting strong momentum into building a shared future for humanity, Xi stated. Xi expressed his strong commitment to the development of China-Egypt relations and readiness to work with Sisi to mark this 70th anniversary as a new starting point for continuing traditional friendship. Furthermore, he called for strengthening exchanges and cooperation across various sectors, promoting China-Egypt relations characterised by stronger strategic guidance, tighter development synergy, and greater international influence to deliver greater benefits for both nations and contribute more to regional and global peace and development.
