China and ASEAN Launch Disaster Management Cooperation Project
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The launch ceremony for the China-ASEAN disaster management cooperation project took place on Thursday at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia.
ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Wang Qing, officials from the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management, and permanent representatives of ASEAN member states attended the event.
“This ceremony opens a new chapter in the ASEAN-China partnership, based on concrete cooperation in disaster management. Over the years, both sides have built strong and dynamic relations,” Kao stated at the event.
Wang remarked that China and ASEAN countries are connected by mountains and seas, adding that practical cooperation in various fields has yielded positive results in recent years, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both sides.
In facing natural disasters in ASEAN countries, China has provided emergency assistance on multiple occasions, demonstrating the strong bonds of mutual help among neighbouring countries and serving as an example for building a community with a shared future for mankind, Wang said.
The China-ASEAN disaster management cooperation project aims to enhance regional coordination in disaster prevention and mitigation by providing human resource training for ASEAN, supporting technology and equipment for command and emergency assessment, sharing China’s experience and practices in early warning and disaster response, and promoting technological connectivity, resource complementarity, and mutual learning.
2026 marks the fifth anniversary of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
