China Activates Emergency Response for Jilin Province Due to Heavy Rain

Beijing (ANTARA) - China’s national commission for disaster prevention, reduction, and relief activated a Level IV national disaster emergency response for Jilin Province in northeastern China on Wednesday (15/7), after the region was hit by heavy rains triggered by Typhoon Bavi, the Ministry of Emergency Management announced. A working team has been dispatched to the affected areas to assess the situation and assist local authorities in ensuring the basic needs of affected residents are met, the ministry said. On Tuesday (14/7), the commission activated a Level IV national disaster emergency response for Liaoning Province in northeastern China, which was also hit by heavy rains and flooding. A total of 500,000 woven bags, 100,000 square metres of filament geotextile, and 150 sets of patrol and inspection lights have been allocated to support Liaoning in flood control and emergency rescue operations. China has a four-tier emergency response system, with Level I being the most severe.
