Prices of staple goods, particularly chillies, in several traditional markets in Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands, remained high as of Sunday (19/7/2026). At Pasar Kite Sungailiat, the price of bird’s eye chilli (cabai rawit) is being sold at Rp75,000 per kilogramme, while red curly chilli is priced at Rp48,000 per kilogramme.

Mita, a trader at Pasar Kite, revealed that there has been a price increase, specifically for red curly chillies. Previously, the price was around Rp45,000 per kilogramme. “There has been an increase, but not too high, an average rise of Rp3,000 specifically for red curly chillies,” Mita said on Sunday (19/7).

Although the price of bird’s eye chilli has not increased in recent days, Mita noted that it remains relatively high compared to normal prices. She explained that the normal relative price for bird’s eye chilli usually ranges from Rp50,000 to Rp60,000 per kilogramme. “However, in recent weeks, the price of bird’s eye chilli has held steady at Rp75,000 per kilogramme,” she added.

In contrast to chillies, prices of other staple goods were observed to be stable. Mita recorded that the price of shallots is currently holding at Rp45,000 per kilogramme. Other commodities such as garlic and carrots also reportedly experienced no significant price fluctuations.

Interestingly, despite the high chilli prices, consumer purchasing power in the Bangka community is showing a positive trend. Mita admitted that market conditions this month are much busier compared to the previous month. “Consumer purchasing power this month has greatly increased compared to last month,” she concluded.
