Chilli Prices Continue to Fall in Bangka During the First Week of Ramadan
During the first week of Ramadan 1444 Hijri, the prices of bird’s eye chillies and large curly chillies in Bangka, Bangka Belitung province, have continued to fall.
At the KITE Sungailiat traditional market in Bangka, the price of bird’s eye chillies is currently Rp55,000 per kilogram, while large curly chillies are priced at Rp60,000 per kilogram.
According to Mita, a spice trader at the KITE market, the price of bird’s eye chillies reached Rp90,000 per kilogram the day before Ramadan.
Large curly chillies were priced at Rp95,000 per kilogram at that time. However, she said that both types of chillies experienced a price decrease at the beginning of Ramadan.
“The price has gradually decreased, with bird’s eye chillies falling from Rp90,000 to Rp75,000 and now to Rp55,000 per kilogram,” said Mita on Wednesday (25/2).
“The same applies to large curly chillies, which have decreased from Rp95,000 to Rp70,000 and now to Rp60,000 per kilogram,” she added.
She stated that the price decrease of bird’s eye chillies and large curly chillies has been ongoing for a week during Ramadan. “Until the seventh day of fasting, the prices have continued to fall, likely due to abundant stock and local farmers harvesting their crops,” she explained.
The decrease in chilli prices has had a positive impact on consumer purchasing power, especially during Ramadan.
She added that the prices of other spices, such as red onions (Rp45,000 per kilogram) and garlic (Rp43,000 per kilogram), have remained stable.
Large curly chillies are sold for Rp70,000 per kilogram, up from the previous price of Rp45,000 per kilogram.
