Child's Cigarette Butt Sparks House Fire in Grobogan, Mother Dies

A house fire in Monggot Village, Geyer District, Grobogan Regency, completely destroyed a home and resulted in the death of a woman. The blaze is suspected to have been caused by a cigarette butt discarded by the homeowner’s child. The Head of the Fire Department at the Grobogan Civil Service Police Unit, Silardi, stated the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon (11/8/2026). The fire began when the homeowner, Paiman, was cooking in the kitchen and noticed smoke coming from his child’s bedroom. According to Paiman’s account, his child had been smoking in the room and placed the still-lit cigarette butt onto a pile of clothes before leaving the house. Paiman then ran outside to call for help and, together with local residents, attempted to extinguish the fire using makeshift tools. In the ensuing panic, Paiman forgot that his wife, who was ill and had limited mobility, was still inside her bedroom. The woman was unable to escape the flames and died in the fire.
