Children witness mother's fiery death

JAKARTA (JP): A 42-year-old housewife was found dead with severe burns in Tangerang, west of here, on Friday.

No police officers could not be reached, but her husband told reporters at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital's morgue that Melani had set herself on fire at their residence after a heated argument with him.

Seng Seng said his wife was found unconscious on the floor of their house with burns all over her body.

He rushed his wife to Cipto but she died on the way to the hospital.

According to Seng Seng, Melani was frustrated and had attempted to end her life last month by drinking pesticide.

Melani's brother, Gege, said the couple was often involved in heated quarrels for various problems, such as children and money, adding that Seng Seng often drowned his sorrows in drink after each quarrel.

Melani also leaves behind two young daughters, who witnessed their mother's death. (07)
