Children of Try Sutrisno Carry Father's Coffin, Fulfilling Final Wish Before Passing
Jakarta — All the children of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno fulfilled their father’s final wish before the retired four-star general passed away.
The wish was Try Sutrisno’s request that his coffin be carried or lifted by his children before being handed over to the state.
“There was a wish from the deceased. He asked his sons to carry (the coffin). This is the wish of the deceased,” said a man through the loudspeaker of the Grand Mosque of Sunda Kelapa after the funeral prayer was conducted.
The children were accompanied by Paspampres (Presidential Security Guard) personnel in red uniforms who helped them.
Try Sutrisno’s children were seen crying as they carried the coffin before their father was handed over to the state through a ceremony held at the Grand Mosque of Sunda Kelapa.
Try Sutrisno died at RSPAD Gatot Subroto hospital on Monday morning. His body is currently at a funeral home in the Menteng area of Jakarta for lying in state.
The family stated that Try Sutrisno had no specific medical history that caused his death on Monday, 2 March 2026. His son Taufik Dwi Cahyono noted that his father’s health declined due to his advanced age of 90 years.
“It was because father was indeed of advanced age; everything declines at that age. There was no specific serious illness — it was simply due to age, with decline in breathing capacity and such things,” said Taufik at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto hospital on Monday.
“(He was admitted) from 16 February onwards. So he suddenly lost his appetite, was brought here, went up and down (in condition), was given medication and food,” Taufik said.
Taufik stated that RSPAD doctors and the presidential medical team had provided the best treatment to Try.
