Children need digital literacy to avoid threats in the digital space
South Tangerang (Tangsel) Mayor Benyamin Davnie has stressed the importance of digital literacy for children, provided by parents, so they can avoid various threats in the digital space.
He explained that the challenges facing women and children are increasingly complex. Beyond issues of physical and psychological violence, various new risks have emerged in the digital realm that require collective attention.
For this reason, he said, the South Tangerang City Government (Pemkot Tangsel) continues to enhance prevention efforts through education, socialisation, mentoring, and strengthening easily accessible protection services for the community.
“We continue to encourage stronger collaboration between the government, families, the education sector, the business world, communities, and society in efforts to protect women and children from various social risks that continue to evolve with the times,” Mayor Benyamin said in a statement in Tangerang on Thursday.
According to Benyamin, the protection of women and children is a shared responsibility that requires the active role of all parties.
“Women and children must receive optimal protection. They have the right to live, grow, and develop in a safe environment free from all forms of violence, discrimination, or harmful treatment,” said Mayor Benyamin.
He also stressed that victims of violence should not be afraid to report it. The South Tangerang City Government has prepared the Tangsel Siaga 112 hotline or WhatsApp (WA) number 0813-8020-1112, which can be contacted 24 hours a day.
Benyamin added that the success of protecting women and children cannot be achieved solely through government programmes. Synergy from all elements of society is needed to build an environment that is caring, responsive, and courageous in reporting any indications of violence or violations of the rights of women and children.
The South Tangerang City Government, he continued, will keep strengthening cross-sector coordination to ensure women and children obtain their rights optimally, whether in education, health, social protection, or opportunities to develop.
“When women feel safe and empowered, and children grow up in a healthy and protected environment, we are building a strong foundation for the future of South Tangerang City. This is a shared responsibility that we must continue to safeguard and strengthen,” said Mayor Benyamin.
