Child Violence Cases Reported to KPAI Dominated by Physical Abuse

The Indonesian Commission for Child Protection (KPAI) has stated that cases of violence against children reported to the commission are dominated by physical and/or psychological abuse.

“Within the special protection cluster for children, the most dominant cases involve children as victims of physical and/or psychological violence, totalling 76 cases,” said KPAI Chairman Aris Adi Leksono during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday. Meanwhile, there were 57 cases involving children as victims of sexual crimes.

According to Leksono, physical violence cases are primarily comprised of maltreatment, fighting, and mob violence, whereas sexual crime cases are dominated by child molestation and intercourse. Additionally, there were 12 cases involving child pornography and cybercrime, five cases of kidnapping and child trafficking, and eight cases of children coming into conflict with the law as perpetrators.

Based on the regional distribution of complaints, the Province of DKI Jakarta recorded the highest number of reports with 113 cases, followed by West Java with 96, East Java with 36, Banten with 30, and North Sumatra with 23.

KPAI received a total of 426 child-related complaints during the period of January to April 2026. “Based on KPAI complaint data for the January-April 2026 period, 301 individuals accessed complaint services through various channels such as chatbots, email, letters, telephone, or by visiting the KPAI office directly, resulting in a total of 426 cases,” stated Aris Adi Leksono.

Of these figures, 403 cases received psycho-educational services, while the remaining 23 cases were managed through field monitoring, case conferences, mediation, and coordination meetings with relevant stakeholders.
