Child Victim of Abuse in Cipongkor Suffers Trauma; Authorities Ensure Support
A five-year-cal boy, identified by the initial R, who was a victim of abuse in the Cipongkor District, West Bandung Regency, is currently receiving trauma healing services. R was the victim of violence perpetrated by Dayat, 28, his biological father. The incident occurred on Sunday (26/7) at the perpetrator’s residence in Cintaasih Village, Cipongkor.
Based on initial examinations, the victim still shows minimal response when engaged in communication. However, his condition must be monitored to determine the extent of the trauma experienced. The Head of the Cipongkor Community Health Centre, Yuyun Sarihotima, stated on Saturday (1/8) that while the victim’s physical condition is improving, visible bruises remain on his face and thighs due to the abuse.
Amalia Kurnia Sari, an official from the West Bandung Social Services, revealed that the victim shows signs of trauma. Further assessments are required to ensure that the psychosocial intervention provided is appropriate for the victim’s condition.
Meanwhile, Cimahi Police Chief AKBP Moh Faruk Rozi ensured that continuous support will be provided to the victim until full physical and psychological recovery is achieved. He has met directly with the victim and the family to provide moral support and to ensure that the legal process against the perpetrator proceeds.
Faruk explained that the motive behind the abuse was to gain sympathy and empathy from the victim’s mother, the perpetrator’s ex-wife, following their divorce in 2023. The perpetrator also reportedly felt resentful because the child frequently compared the treatment received from the mother’s family to that of the father’s family. The perpetrator recorded the abuse and sent the video to his former mother-in-law in an attempt to facilitate a reconciliation.
In addition to Dayat, the police have also detained an individual identified by the initial A, who acted as the person recording the abuse. Both individuals are facing charges under Article 76 in conjunction with Article 80, paragraphs 1 and 4 of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection, which carries a maximum penalty of four years and six months in prison.
