Child Reports Multiple Missing Rail Fasteners Near Citayam Station; KAI Responds
A video of a child reporting missing metal rail fasteners near Citayam Station in Depok went viral on social media, prompting a response from PT KAI.
Franoto Wibowo, Manager of Public Relations for KAI’s Jakarta Regional Operations (Daop 1), stated that train services remain safe and under control. He explained that railway infrastructure construction incorporates specific technical standards and tolerance thresholds that have been carefully calculated from an engineering perspective.
Therefore, if certain rail fastening components are found to be missing, the condition remains within safe operating parameters so long as it stays within the established tolerance limits.
“Safety is our top priority. Every day, Track Inspection Officers conduct comprehensive inspections of rails, sleepers, fasteners, and all other infrastructure components. If any shortages are identified or components require replacement, immediate action will be taken in accordance with applicable maintenance standards,” said Franoto on Monday, 2 March 2026.
KAI emphasised that all railway routes are subject to routine multi-layered monitoring to ensure infrastructure reliability and travel safety.
KAI Cautions Against Unauthorised Track Access
KAI highlighted the danger posed by the video’s production, which showed two small children on active railway tracks. The company urged the public not to enter railway track areas without legitimate purpose and proper authorisation.
He noted that railway tracks constitute a restricted and hazardous zone, as trains can pass at any time at high speeds. Activities in the vicinity of tracks, including video content creation, pose potential risks to personal safety and railway operations.
“KAI calls on all members of the public to jointly protect railway safety by avoiding activities on track lines and promptly reporting to personnel any infrastructure conditions requiring attention,” he said.
